			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://eastern.or.kr/">Eastern Social Welfare Society</a> is pleased to introduce its 2012 Korean Language and Cultural Program. <strong><a href="http://www.koreanfocus.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/ESWS2012KoreanLanguageCultureProgramApplication.pdf">Applications are due to ESWS by May 10, 2012</a>!</strong></p>
<p>ESWS has sponsored Korean Language Scholarship Program for numerous years to help Korean adoptees better learn and understand their language and heritage and the cultural differences between Korea and other countries.</p>
<p>In addition to Korean language and culture classes, this year&#8217;s program includes sightseeing and volunteer opportunities, cultural performances and much more.</p>
<p>This year&#8217;s program is taking place in conjunction with Hallym University at their International School in Chuncheon, Korea. Each participant will have the opportunity to experience college life in Korea and to interact with students from other cultures.</p>
<p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p>
<p>1. Eligibility : Korean adoptees with a desire to learn Korean language and culture<br />
Must be 18-year-old or older<br />
Must have completed high school education with diploma<br />
Individuals adopted through the services of ESWS and first-time applicants have first priority.</p>
<p>2. Term Period : July 2 – August 3 2012<br />
- Korean Language Program: July 2 &#8211; July 27 2012<br />
- Cultural Program: July 27 – August 3 2012<br />
- Arrival date: between June 27 and June 28 2012<br />
- Departure date: between August 4 and August 6 2012</p>
<p>3. Language Center: Hallym International center, <a href="http://his.hallym.ac.kr">Hallym University in Chuncheon</a></p>
<p>4. Scholarship: Tuition, accommodation and other activities for the applicants will be paid by ESWS; attendees are responsible for travel to and from Korea.</p>

- 1 Self-introductory essay<br />

- Medical report issued within the past 1year (including hepatitis &amp; tuberculosis)</p>

Local host <a href="http://www.racinescoreennes.org/">Racines coréennes</a> and is thrilled to welcome a great number of attendees coming from France and around the world.</p>
<p>From Friday, June 29th 2012 to Sunday, July 1st 2012, Korean adoptees from around the world will gather in Paris, in the great area of Saint –Germain- des- Prés (6e et 7e districts of Paris). Adoptees from more than 15 countries are expected to attend.</p>

<li>It is a venue that allows the adoptees – more than 180,000 Korean adoptees worldwide – to share stories, to voice struggles, and to celebrate life together!</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/in/auksa">Korean Student Association of American University</a> is holding its Korean Culture Night on Saturday, April 7 at 7:30pm at the Tavern at AU.</p>
<p>The event features a Korean drum and dance ensemble from the Asian American Arts Center, a group that has performed at Bill Clinton&#8217;s inauguration and the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Chip Han, a local beat boxer that won the 2010 Kollaboration DC talent competition, will also be performing.</p>
<p>The event is free. There will be food and activities for all ages to enjoy.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">(Washington, DC – April 2, 2012): The Korean Cultural Center Washington DC will host a public book reading, signing, and reception event with author Kyung-sook Shin on April 13 at 6:30 pm to celebrate the paperback release of her bestselling book, <em>Please Look After Mom</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Shin, a familiar best-selling author in Korea, recently became the first Korean and first woman to receive the Man Asian Literary Prize for the English translation of <em>Please Look After Mom</em>, which is now being distributed worldwide.</p>
<p>In this beautifully written and intensely compelling novel, Shin tells the story of one family’s search for their mother – who goes missing one afternoon on the Seoul subway – that unfolds to reveal the secret lives of mothers.</p>

<p>This event is part of K-Literature, which aims to promote Korea-US understanding and artistic exchange by welcoming Korean literary figures to the Korean Cultural Center in Washington DC.</p>
<p><strong>Synopsis</strong></p>
<p>When sixty-nine-year-old So-nyo is separated from her husband among the crowds of the Seoul subway station, her family is awash in sorrow and guilt. As the children argue over the “Missing” flyers they are posting throughout the city, they realize that none of them has a recent photograph of Mom. And when their father reveals that her official birth date is incorrect, they begin to wonder: do they really know the woman they called Mom? Told through the piercing voices and urgent perspectives of a daughter, son, husband, and in the shattering conclusion, by Mom herself, the novel is a picture of contemporary life in Korea and a universal story of family love.</p>

<p>Kyung-sook Shin is the author of numerous works of fiction and is one of Korea’s most widely read and acclaimed novelists.
